Stangl Pottery. Stangl Pottery was founded in 1929, in Flemington, New Jersey, by Martin Stangl. It was first known as Fulper Pottery, who Stangl started working for in 1910. He left to work for Haegar Pottery in 1915 but came back to Fulper in 1920. By 1924, he was vice president of the company. In 1926, he became president of the company.

Twelve porcelain birds were produced initially. The birds that followed were produced using earthenware. When production ceased in 1978, over a hundred different shapes and varieties had been made. Johann Martin Stangl died in 1972. In 1978, Frank Wheaton, Jr., bought Stangl and then sold it to Pflatzgraff Pottery. Pflatzgraff ended production.

Martin Stangl was a ceramic engineer first hired by Fulper in 1910. Stangl pottery closed in 1978. Stangl used paper and foil labels and also marked some of the output with an in-mold mark or number. It used a black or gold backstamp with the Stangl name in an oval as well. Other pieces are unmarked but the glazes are unusual and often help.
